Vita Katrin Nottrodt

Katrin Nottodt was born in Eckernförde in 1969. After graduation she studied set design in the classes of Prof. Wilfried Minks at the ‘Hochschule der Bildenden Künste’ in Hamburg and Prof. Karl Ernst Herrmann at the ‘Akademie der Bildenen Künste’ in Munich.

Since 1992 she has been working freelance and designed numerous set designs for national and international theatres. While first productions were shown in the factory halls of the ‘Kampnagelfabrik’ in Hamburg, she nowadays works for stages, festivals and theatres, as for example Thalia Theater Hamburg, Schauspielhaus Düsseldorf, Hamburg and Hannover, Schauspiel Köln und Stuttgart, Kammerspiele Munic, Deutsches Theater and Komische Oper Berlin and Burgtheater Vienna. Furthermore, she worked for international productions in Great Britain, Austria, France, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and Colombia. In 2006 and 2007 the ‘Ruhrfestspiele Recklinghausen’, the ‘Schwetzinger Schlossfestspiele’ and the ‘Salzburger Festspiele’ engaged her, as did the ‘Festival d´Avignon’ in 2012.

The close teamwork with director Nicolas Stemann formed her artistic experience. Together with him she worked for the world premiere of plays by Elfriede Jelinek, like ‘Das Werk’, ‘Ulrike Maria Stuart’, ‘Babel’ or ‘Die Kontrakte des Kaufmanns’. In 2010 she enhanced her artistic oevre in the art form opera with ‘La Périchole’ and world premier with ´Peer Gynt´ at the National Opera of Oslo, Norway. Elfriede Jelineks thinkspiel ´Kein Licht. (2011/ 2012/ 2017)´with compositions by Philippe Manoury were equipped by Katrin Nottrodt at the Ruhrtriennale in 2017.

Apart from invitations to the ‘Berliner Theatertreffen’ in 2002, 2004, 2007 and 2010, she was honoured with the nomination for the Nestroy-Preis in 2005 and the ‘audience price’ for the set design of ‘Rechnitz’ in 2011. Furthermore in 2015 she was granted of the award “Set designer of the year” by Theater heute for “John Gabriel Borkman”. In 2017 her set design and costume for “As you like it” were nominated for the Norwegian Hedda Prisen.

Katrin Nottrodt is married and lives with her husband and their three children in Regensburg, Bavaria.
